* Principal Data Engineer
* 6 months initial contract with possible extension
* Adelaide Based Role
The Principal Data Engineer is responsible for delivering quality assured data products and the broader data architecture underpinning the lakehouse and leads by delegation and overseeing the development and testing of technical solutions that are scalable. The position is also required to manage the delivery of complex data projects, provide specialist advice, build, and mentor a young team.
Responsibilities
* Strategically determine, plan and deliver a program of work to effectively manage data engineering workloads, data analytics products and solutions, and support the existing architecture which facilitates the achievement of Department’s strategic information goals and objectives.
* Provide high level technical consulting services and leadership to departmental staff including qualified Data Engineers and QA Engineers, ensuring delivery of outcomes on time and budget.
* Lead Business improvement and process re-engineering exercises to proactively optimise and add value to the investments made in resources, whether they be individuals or teams.
* Ensure reliability and consistency of service across multiple simultaneous projects of strategic significance and a high level of technical complexity.
* Perform comprehensive work planning and manage the delivery and execution of ongoing improvement of critical data engineering workloads.
* Develop and implement, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, a range of innovative business strategies, policies and procedures, which significantly inform and support the achievement of the department’s corporate objectives, including influencing and guiding strategic planning and decision making.
* Initiate, develop, and maintain operational networks throughout the agency and Government, and provide expert advice on a range of relevant matters, to support effective service delivery outcomes.
* Help to maintain a safe and healthy working environment by proactively reporting incidents, hazards and injuries.
Key Competencies
* Trusted Advisor: Provide expert advice to senior management and external stakeholders regarding technical data engineering workloads and data architecture and their potential implications to agency projects and strategic plans.
* Advocacy: Demonstrate the ability to advocate for improvement in the maturity and awareness of data analytics across the department.
* Communication: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, succinctly, and accurately, in writing and verbally, to people at all levels in a professional and tactful manner including successfully negotiate and resolve conflict with staff and stakeholders.
* Networking: Proven experience in developing and maintain excellent relationship with key stakeholders, including critical networks, alliances, and operational relationships, and to effectively negotiate and liaise with them.
* Knowledge: Detailed knowledge of relevant government policies and procedures in the context of data management and security and their application in relation to agency operations including knowledge of principles of cloud computing, data warehousing concepts and agile project management practices.
* Government Policies and Processes: A well-developed working knowledge of government decision making processes and administration policies including Work, Health, Safety and Welfare, Equal Employment Opportunities, records management, procurement, and personnel management standards as they apply to the scope of the position.
