Foster Care Recruitment and Assessment Officer
Mallee District Aboriginal Services – Mildura VIC
The Foster Care Recruitment and Assessment officer will identify and assess potential carers for the organisation, whilst also providing support and training to existing carers. Other duties that will be required as part of the role will include the planning and facilitation of community days, and the development of culturally appropriate promotional material such as brochures to promote and attract carers/caring options. The community events will occur in conjunction with other community days such as NAIDOC week, inter-agency functions and MDAS Community Days.
The Foster Care Recruitment and Assessment Officer will also assist with the training needs and supervision of existing carers.
The Foster Care Recruitment and Assessment Officer must be a ‘Step by Step’ registered assessor. The Officer must be qualified and have the skills and knowledge to complete foster care assessments for MDAS.
Key Selection Criteria:
1. Coordinate and lead the recruitment and training of prospective caregivers.
2. Coordinate and support the convening of the Assessment and Placement Committee whilst promoting a strong team approach to Best Interests principles for the child in care.
3. Ability to assess prospective caregivers and exchange information, undertake a comprehensive step-by-step assessment of prospective caregivers and arrange appropriate training for prospective and existing caregivers.
4. Able to organise and facilitate regular Shared Stories, Shared Lives training to meet the needs of the program.
5. Uses knowledge and experience to develop and implement systems to plan and monitor own performance. An understanding of therapeutic intervention underpinned by trauma, attachment theory and resilience.
6. Strong administrative skills with effectiveness in developing tasks and managing resources to achieve required actions within set timeframes.
7. Communicate, consult, liaise and negotiate with a broad range of people both Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal people at all levels to achieve broad project objectives and goals.
8. Take action to provide services that are inclusive of Aboriginal people and engage in learning about other cultures to better establish relationships and improve services.
Qualification/s:
Must be an accredited and registered Step by Step assessor.
Cert IV in Community Services or relevant tertiary qualification equivalent. Experience within the Out of Home Care Sector.
Other Screening Requirements:
1. A current Driver’s License that allows you to drive in Australia.
2. A current Employee Working with Children Check card.
3. A current National Police Check.
4. COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate & Booster information or a valid medical exemption.
