Due to the expansion and growth they have achieved, they are looking for an agronomist to join the farm agronomy team and assist in continuing to improve the farming system. The role itself? This is an opportunity to join a fantastic farm services team. Your day to day activities in this role will include: Carrying out the collection of required soil, leaf and root samples and work with the Agronomy Manager to make recommendations based on results and knowledge Working with farm managers on techniques for improving crop production, tree health, controlling disease, pests and weeds, as well as nutrition improvements and management Maintaining a recording system for nutrition and spray applications Creating worksheets for chemical and nutrition applications as per advice. Ensure these are performed as directed in conjunction with the farm manager Stocktaking and maintaining stock levels for upcoming chemical and fertiliser applications Conducting weekly monitoring of pest and disease in avocados and mangoes Researching and implementing new techniques and management systems for improving post –harvest quality, orchard health and yield Evaluating the information gained from the library trays and pack out data to either maintain or further improve fruit quality for each block Working with consultants to improve orchard productivity, tree health and fruit quality Maintaining an understanding of current research and aid in implementing new production techniques in the business Writing reports as required to support the Agronomy Manager and other Managers in the business Supporting farm staff with spray equipment calibrations and ensure equipment calibration are up to date What kind of person will fit the role? The perfect person for this role will have tertiary qualifications in agronomy, proven knowledge and experience in avocados, macadamias, mangoes or citrus production.
