Medical Officer - Virtual Rural Generalist Service Hybrid Remote/Face to Face Role
The Virtual Rural Generalist Service (VRGS) is a comprehensive telehealth service that provides inpatient and emergency care to rural communities requiring additional medical support. VRGS was developed by Western NSW Local Health District to provide 24/7 support for local medical and nursing staff, ensuring safe and high-quality care in rural and remote areas.
As the first of its kind in Australia, VRGS delivers a virtual service complemented by face-to-face interactions. Our doctors work both remotely and on-site to provide Rural Generalist medical coverage for hospitals and Multipurpose Services, as well as fatigue management when local Visiting Medical Officers are unavailable or need a break.
VRGS offers the following services to all rural facilities within WNSWLHD alongside on-site clinicians:
* Video consultations for Emergency Department patients
* Medical management of acute inpatients
* Virtual ward rounds for inpatients
* Clinical support for Residential Aged Care residents in rural MPSs where the local GP is not available
* Face-to-face coverage for rural hospitals, with a minimum 25% requirement of face-to-face shifts
This hybrid role involves working both virtually and on-site within WNSWLHD, providing medical coverage for rural hospitals and MPSs (with a minimum 25% face-to-face shift requirement). By leveraging the expertise of Rural Generalists, VRGS provides 24/7 medical expert support across 35 rural and remote facilities in Western NSW.
Key benefits include:
* Location negotiable, with virtual shifts accessible from anywhere in Australia with reliable internet access
* Join a team of expert rural generalists pioneering telehealth provision in rural communities
* Competitive rates of remuneration
* Opportunity to be at the forefront of virtual care in Australia
* Ability to travel to rural and remote regions of Western NSW
This innovative clinical model utilizes one of the most advanced telehealth infrastructures in Australia, demonstrating proven safety and quality standards. As a supplemental service to traditional medical care, VRGS provides both emergency and inpatient services via telehealth to rural and remote communities.
