Your Opportunity
Missionbeat NT is a mobile outreach service providing support to street present young people in Darwin, Palmerston and surrounding areas who may be at risk of or experiencing homelessness, disengagement, safety or issues associated with alcohol and other drug use and mental ill health. Operating on Friday and Saturday nights, our Missionbeat support workers engage young people in places where they meet. The service offers brief interventions, engagement and direct referrals to services, with ongoing case management provided by Mission Australia's complementary local programs.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
* Engage with street present young people who may be unsafe or experiencing mental ill health and/or issues associated with their use of alcohol or other drugs.
* Support the other Missionbeat support worker to set up the Missionbeat vehicle and replenishing with food and refreshments, information and other resources.
* Undertake basic administrative tasks
* Liaise with case managers and other service providers to arrange follow up appointments with young people
Requirements for Success
* Tertiary education in Community Services, or currently studying a relevant qualification
* Previous experience in youth work and/or youth outreach and maintain an understanding of the issues faced by young people in Darwin and Palmerston
* Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of team and assist others as required
* Demonstrated professional approach including maintaining professional boundaries
* Good written and verbal communication skills, including basic administrative skills and use of technology
* Current NT drivers’ license
Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
