Job Description About Qantas Freight, Express Freighters Australia Qantas Freight, operating as Express Freighters Australia (EFA), is the dedicated freight management division within the Qantas Group. As a wholly owned subsidiary, it provides essential aircraft and crew for long-term freight contracts under the Qantas Freight livery. The fleet comprises modern A321 and A330 freighters, facilitating efficient domestic and international freight operations. The addition of converted A330 freighters has significantly increased capacity, with each aircraft capable of transporting up to 50 tonnes of freight per flight, both domestically and internationally with services to and from Asia. At Qantas Freight, we’ve secured substantial contracts, including the largest airfreight agreement in Australia with Australia Post, reinforcing our position as a leader in the freight industry. We’ve also expanded our trans-Tasman services, enhancing connectivity between Australia and New Zealand. Recently, we’ve increased our trans-Tasman freighter operations, adding more rotations between Sydney, Auckland, and Christchurch. This expansion boosts service frequency and freight capacity, reflecting our commitment to meeting growing customer demand and strengthening our presence in the trans-Tasman market. Recruitment and Minimum Requirements We are currently accepting expressions of interest for First Officer positions on our narrow-body fleet. While base locations are yet to be determined, this is an exciting opportunity to join a key division of the Qantas Group. As a First Officer with Qantas Freight (EFA), you’ll have; An Australian ATPL (A) or an Australian CPL (A) with passes in all Australian ATPL Theory subjects Australian Multi-Engine Aeroplane Instrument Rating with 2D and 3D endorsements Current CASA Class 1 medical ICAO English Language Proficiency Level 6 Experience in a multi-crew operation or successful completion of a multi-crew cooperation course Minimum 500 hours flight time in fixed wing aircraft, and at least one of the following minimum flight hours requirements: 200 hours in command of a multi engine aircraft (excluding PICUS); or 200 hours in command of a turbine powered fixed wing aircraft; or 200 hours on aircraft certified for operation by a crew of two pilots (multi-crew aircraft). A current passport with unrestricted access to all Qantas Freight ports of call with at least 12 months validity Ability to pass a pre-employment medical The ability to pass a Drug and Alcohol Test The ability to hold an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) Hold, or be eligible to hold, relevant Australian permanent residency status or an unrestricted right to work in Australia Lifestyle & Rosters As a First Officer with Qantas Freight, you’ll experience mainly night operations, with a roster that consists of less flying hours than in most passenger airlines. Our domestic rosters have traditionally focused on weekday shifts, providing a routine that many pilots appreciate. However, with the addition of the Tasman triangle routes to the A321 fleet, there will now be some weekend flying included in the domestic rosters, offering a bit more variety to your schedule.
