Band 5 ($78,881) plus 11% Super plus monthly ADO Hybrid/Flexible Working Arrangements Braybrook, Melbourne The Opportunity Our City Places Department has an exciting opportunity for a suitably experienced and enthusiastic Urban Planner to join our friendly and professional team. Reporting to the Coordinator City Planning, you will be the primary contact point for VicSmart Planning Permit Applications and Business Concierge small business enquiries. You will also promptly process property information and planning permit applications in accordance with Council and statutory requirements. This role would be well suited to a graduate planner who can confidently provide technical advice and support to Council teams, are natural collaborators with exceptional problem solving skills, and who can quickly and genuinely build great relationships. Key Responsibilities Process a range of planning applications (including VicSmart and subdivisions), applications to amend planning permits, requests for extension of time for permits and general enquiries. Provide efficient and effective advice to Council's Business Concierge Officer regarding new small business applications. Assist Council's Business Concierge Officer in meetings for prospective new business applications, including providing written advice when necessary. Provide clear and technical advice to applicants, the public, Council and other bodies in regard to statutory planning matters. Prepare reports and recommendations on applications and when required prepare submissions and present at the Victorian Civil Administrative Tribunal. Undertake all administrative tasks and processes involved in processing planning applications and provide support to the City Planning Department. To be considered for this role, you will have the following: Tertiary qualification (or undertaking study) in town planning or a related discipline. A thorough understanding of the Victorian Planning Legislative Framework - the Victorian Planning Provisions, planning permit process and the Planning and Environment Act 1987. Knowledge and understanding of applying urban planning theory, practice, principles and precedent. Strong writing skills including the ability to prepare clear and concise reports and data. Effective communication and problem solving skills to produce cooperative outcomes within a team environment, strong mediation and conciliation skills. Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development and implementation of strategies, policies and guidelines. Capacity to manage time effectively, identify workload priorities and meet deadlines.
