Department: Department of Treasury and Finance About this role About us The Department of Treasury and Finance provides economic, financial and resource management advice to help the Victorian Government deliver its policies. Group The Financial Reporting Group has two distinct teams – Consolidated Reporting & Analysis and Accounting Policy. The Consolidated Reporting & Analysis team plays a lead role in all whole of state budget and actuals financial publications. The Accounting Policy team: provides expert accounting advice on the State's major projects and transactions; manages the State's financial reporting framework (e.g. Victorian Financial Reporting Directions and Model Financial Statements); undertakes independent quality assurance on the Department's key products and publications; manages relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. About the role The Accounting Policy team has an opportunity for a Senior Analyst, Accounting Policy to join its high performing team on an ongoing basis. In the role you will be accountable for: routinely advising senior management on complex accounting and financial reporting issues and providing options for discussion and consideration that enable decision making; developing accounting and financial reporting policy frameworks and standards that support robust financial management and reporting practices across the Victorian Public Sector; providing leadership and guidance to Victorian public sector entities in the application of accounting standards and financial reporting policies and practices; contributing to the State's sustainability reporting policy development and implementation within the Victorian public sector; coordinating the quality assurance process of the Department's products and publications; building and maintaining effective relationships within the Department and with other central and portfolio agencies, including the ability to provide strategic focus to high-level problem solving and negotiations with key stakeholders; actively supporting and contributing to organisational goals, demonstrating organisational values and behaviours, and a commitment to personal and professional development. About you We are seeking applications from candidates with demonstrable experience in: Technical expertise: A strong understanding of generally accepted accounting practice, principles, concepts and Australian accounting standards with the demonstrated ability to translate those into advice to stakeholders. This includes the ability to provide robust and well-researched advice, policy solutions and thought leadership in the absence of specific guidance when developing accounting and financial reporting policy frameworks, standards and guidance that support financial management and reporting practices. Experience in sustainability reporting (including climate reporting) is highly desirable. Communication: Proven ability to confidently and clearly convey positions, ideas and information to a wide range of stakeholders. This includes demonstrated experience in communicating advice on complex accounting and financial reporting issues to non-technical stakeholders, being effective in providing policy solutions and options for discussion and consideration. Deliver solutions/continuous improvements: Demonstrated ability to create an environment of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing, leading to increased capability and flexibility of self and team, and solutions that increase efficiency and effectiveness in delivering on the objectives of the team and/or the broader organisation. Leadership: Demonstrated record of leadership and achievement in delivering results, including a demonstrated ability to enhance the performance of the team or identify solutions. Relationships/teamwork: Demonstrated ability to identify, build and maintain strategic and productive relationships with key stakeholders in the delivery of complex projects and in the pursuit of group objectives. This includes a demonstrated record of seeking opportunities to make a broader contribution, working well with the different working styles of others, the resolution of conflict within the group, and contributing to a positive culture within the team and/or the broader organisation.
