Specialist Endocrinologist
The Royal Melbourne is one of Victoria's largest hospitals providing a comprehensive range of health services including acute, sub-acute, general, and specialist medical services throughout inpatient and community-based facilities.
We are also a proud part of the world-renowned Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, working in collaboration to advance research for continuous improvement of clinical care.
Unit Description:
The Diabetes and Endocrinology service delivers world-leading clinical care, research and training.
The service cares for inpatients and outpatients with a broad range of endocrine conditions, including diabetes, osteoporosis, pituitary disease and thyroid disease.
We deliver expert diabetes clinical care and education to inpatients and outpatients of the hospital and the department has been recognised as an Australian Diabetes Society NADC accredited Diabetes Centre of Excellence.
Major clinical initiatives have occurred in the fields of Diabetes, Pituitary and Bone & Mineral Medicine.
We are the first hospital in Australia to establish a networked blood glucose meter system across all inpatient areas which is automatically integrated with an electronic medical record.
The department established Victoria's first multi-disciplinary Diabetes Foot Unit (DFU).
The department is recognised as delivering state-of-the art perioperative care of patients undergoing pituitary surgery and also established a fracture-capture service to treat patients with bone disorders presenting to hospital with fractures.

Position A: 7hpfn Fractional/Fixed Term (Parental leave Cover 24 March 2025 – 19 August 2025)
Position B: 10.5hpfn Fractional/Fixed Term 07 April 2025 – 18 July 2025
Position C: 14hpfn Fractional/Fixed Term (Parental leave Cover 02 June 2025 – 01 June 2026)
About the role:
The purpose of this role is to act as an Endocrinologist in the Department of Diabetes & Endocrinology, working closely with the Direct of the department to deliver high level acute and ambulatory care as well as assist with other department activities.
This includes:
Clinical duties in Diabetes & Endocrinology Clinics in an ambulatory care setting Clinical duties in acute care involving ward service and on-call work Supervising and teaching of HMO, Registrar Performing general administration duties Collaborating with all hospital departments including Diabetes Education and Allied Health and supervising multidisciplinary teams Participating in research, quality and educational activities of the department Developing new models of diabetes and endocrine care in the ambulatory and acute care settings Fostering a high level of safety in clinical care About You:
Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (for international Medical Graduates) MBBS or equivalent tertiary qualifications Fellowship Benefits:
