The School
The Armidale School (‘TAS’) is a co-educational Anglican boarding and day school with a Junior School (Pre-Kindergarten to Year 5), Middle School (Year 6-8), and Senior School (Year 9-12). The School has an enrolment of approximately 680 students, including over 200 boarders, and is actively pursuing expansion into the early years.
TAS values and actively pursues individual academic performance and effort, but a TAS education is a comprehensive one, presenting every student with the experiences that create character and resilience, promote creativity, initiative and leadership, and prepare them for life. We are proud of our history and traditions and membership of the GPS, yet at the same time we are liberal and progressive. TAS staff are intrinsically involved in all aspects of the co-curricular program, allowing them to build greater understanding and rapport with each student.
The Position
The Armidale School seeks a skilled and dedicated Early Childhood Educator for our Junior School pre-school program. This role involves supporting preschool-aged children in a program aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) and, in due course, the Early Years Learning Framework. The role requires a specific focus on nurturing the curiosity, resilience, and character development of pre-school students in line with TAS’s core values.
Key Responsibilities
1. Educational Program Delivery
o Plan and deliver engaging, inquiry-led learning experiences within the PYP framework, fostering the development of the whole child across intellectual, social, and emotional domains.
o Implement age-appropriate, play-based learning activities that inspire exploration and creativity, while supporting students in developing essential skills for lifelong learning.
o Tailor individual plans (IPs) and assessment strategies in alignment with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and PYP principles, documenting children’s progress effectively.
o Create a stimulating, welcoming classroom environment that reflects PYP values of respect, curiosity, and community engagement.
o Support positive behaviour and classroom management through developmentally appropriate guidance, fostering an environment where children feel safe, valued, and encouraged to take ownership of their learning.
o Encourage children’s active participation and independence, providing opportunities for self-directed learning within the PYP’s learner-centred approach.
2. Collaboration and Communication
o Collaborate with fellow educators to share insights, teaching strategies, and resources that support the School’s mission and PYP objectives.
o Maintain open and constructive communication with parents, providing updates on children’s progress and inviting family engagement in the learning process.
o Engage in school events, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities to further integrate PYP philosophies across the curriculum and contribute to the wider TAS community.
3. Documentation and Compliance
o Maintain thorough documentation of children’s learning journeys, including Individual Learning and Development Records, to meet both TAS standards and the reflective assessment practices of the PYP.
o Adhere to all school policies and, where applicable, incorporate aspects of the National Quality Framework (NQF) to support the School’s operational goals.
o Maintain up-to-date certifications in First Aid, CPR, Asthma, and Anaphylaxis, ensuring a safe learning environment.
4. Child Safety and Wellbeing
o Demonstrate an unwavering commitment to child safety, ensuring compliance with TAS’s child protection policies and fostering a secure environment where every child is respected and supported.
o Promote an inclusive and culturally safe space for all children, valuing and celebrating diversity in the classroom.
5. Qualifications and Skills
o Diploma or Bachelor in Early Childhood Education and Care (or equivalent).
o Strong communication, ICT, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to use technology to support classroom practices effectively.
o A valid NSW Working with Children Check and a demonstrated commitment to fostering a safe, respectful, and collaborative learning environment.
o Knowledge of, or experience with, the PYP framework and an inquiry-based, child-centred approach to teaching would be advantageous but is not essential.
o Ability to work both independently and as part of a team within a dynamic learning environment.
o Strong initiative and adaptability to meet evolving educational needs and goals within the PYP framework.
o A reflective and growth-oriented approach to professional development and teaching practices.

Renumeration Package and Conditions
Salaries and conditions for the position are governed by the ‘Independent Schools NSW Teachers (Hybrid Model) Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2021’ or the ‘Independent Schools NSW Support and Operational Staff Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2021’ (MEA), depending on the level of qualification held, or any instrument that replaces this MEA. In addition to the teaching load, there is an expectation of pastoral and extra-curricular involvement within the School.
