About the role
The Psychological Health Service is responsible for clinical assessment and intervention to prisoners who:
are at acute risk or suicide or self-harm; are at chronic risk of suicide or self-harm or otherwise vulnerable within the prison system; have mental health issues; are having difficulties coping, adjusting to prison, or in transition to release.
Successful applicants may be appointed to one of two positions:
Prison Counsellor (general population): This role involves providing comprehensive counselling services to individuals in custody, addressing a wide range of psychological and emotional issues.
The position focuses on enhancing the overall well-being of inmates through tailored support and interventions, fostering a positive and rehabilitative environment.
Prison Counsellor (AOD): A role for a counsellor, ideally with experience in Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) counselling, to work as part of a team supporting individuals on their recovery journey.

The AOD Reintegration Service offers a comprehensive range of high-quality reintegration services, making a significant and positive impact on the lives of those affected by alcohol and other drugs.
This role emphasises a person-centred approach and a collaborative working culture to achieve the best possible outcomes by providing counselling support for mental health and AOD issues.
