Blaxland High School is a comprehensive, co–educational school that services the educational needs of the community of the lower Blue Mountains from Lapstone to Warrimoo. Enrolment numbers around 1000 including 43 Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students (4%). The school has a support unit.
The school has forged productive relationships with partner primary schools as part of the Lower Blue Mountains Learning Community as well as with the University of Western Sydney through its Fast Forward Program.
Blaxland High School enjoys a strong reputation in academic, sporting, performing and creative arts achievements. We provide a broad curriculum, including academic extension programs, diverse electives and vocational programs.
Specific Selection CriteriaApplicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria:
1. Approval to teach English 7 – 10.
2. Demonstrated capability to work as a dynamic member of the school executive in the implementation of key initiatives to support the school's strategic directions in alignment with the shared vision.
3. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead staff through curriculum reform and implementing new syllabuses through quality teaching, learning and assessment practices.
4. A visible leader with capacity to work collaboratively with staff, students and community to drive quality, evidence-based practises that have a sustained impact on student improvement, with specific reference to growth for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
General Selection Criteria1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policiesConditions
