You will be responsible for influencing and developing strategies, policies and priorities along with participation in strategic objectives regarding the Government response to the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide Final Report.In addition to utilising your strong technical legal skills, you will develop a keen understanding of the workings of Government and a comprehensive ability to manage multiple stakeholders. You will use your excellent technical legal skills to work across a broad range of matters (including drafting and review of varying subject matter and complexity).You will provide strategic advice to senior management and stakeholders as well as lead and assume accountability for complex work, sensitive projects or work programs that may have strategic or political significance. You will use your excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills to initiate, establish and maintain strong relationships with a network of stakeholders internally and externally.Please note: This vacancy is a broadband classification APS Level 3 - Executive Level 1 (Legal 1). The Executive Level 1 (Legal 1) position salary range is $115,899 to $141,923.About our TeamThis is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment supporting the RCDVS Implementation Taskforce (the Taskforce), which has been established to lead Defence's response to the Royal Commission's Final Report submitted in September 2024. The Taskforce is responsible for providing governance, oversight and support for the implementation of Government agreed recommendations.The EL1 Senior Legal Officer performs a key function within the General Counsel Team and will support the RCDVS Implementation Program. The Taskforce General Counsel Team provides strategic legal advice and representation as well as legal support including reviewing and clearing draft Defence submissions to government and liaising with Defence Legal regarding legislative amendments that may be required.
