About the team
Ready to set sail on an extraordinary career journey?
Be part of the ground-breaking Commonwealth program, responsible for the decommissioning of the Northern Endeavour and work with other people committed to tackling this unprecedented challenge for the Australian Government.
Our branch is on a mission to decommission the Northern Endeavour – a 274m long floating production storage and offtake (FPSO) facility that is permanently moored between the Laminaria and Corallina oil fields, approximately 550km northwest of Darwin in the Timor Sea. To decommission the facility safely and effectively and protect the environment, the program of work is broken into three phases.
* Phase 1: decommissioning and disconnecting the FPSO from the subsea equipment, temporarily suspending the wells, and towing and disposal of the FPSO.
* Phase 2: permanent plugging and abandoning the wells.
* Phase 3: removing the subsea infrastructure and remediating the Laminaria and Corallina oil fields.
The opportunity
We are seeking candidates to fill multiple vacancies across a variety of teams within the Northern Endeavour Branch, including:
* Phase 1 and FPSO Recycling Delivery Team
* Regulatory Compliance Team
* Program Management Office (PMO)
What’s in it for you?
You will gain first-hand experience working as part of a dynamic branch working on a complex and unique program of work. You will experience a broad range of functions relating to the decommissioning of the Northern Endeavour facility and remediation of the Laminaria and Corallina Oilfields.
Take pride in being one of the pioneers in Government to decommission an important piece of Australia’s ageing oil and gas infrastructure. From day one, you will apply your wealth of experience and expertise to help guide the decommissioning of the FPSO to completion. Along the way you will contribute to setting new standards for the decommissioning industry in Australia.
We will support you to develop your career. It is estimated that $60 billion will be spent on domestic decommissioning over the coming 50 years. This is your chance to utilise your experience to help drive sustainability in this industry, as over half of the infrastructure decommissioning needs will start within the next decade. Future career opportunities span the broader public service and private sectors, including in the Oil and Gas Division within DISR. Example roles include commercial advisor, financial manager, project manager, risk manager, policy officer, governance officer, environmental specialist, regulatory compliance officer, consultant, and research professional.
You will get exposure to cutting-edge technical expertise. You will be provided a supportive learning environment where you are encouraged and exposed to industry leading approaches used to retire one of Australia’s unique offshore facilities, including understanding specialised equipment, materials handling, and innovative solutions to the disposal of the decommissioned asset. You will be given the opportunity to acquire expertise in environmental impact assessment, regulatory permitting and compliance, large scale program management, and complex procurement.
You will help to make a lasting impact. By decommissioning the Northern Endeavour, you will safeguard marine ecosystems, prevent potential environmental risks, and ensure a safe and effective decommissioning program. Join the team to make a significant and lasting impact and shape the future of decommissioning for Australia.
