We are embarking on an extraordinary journey to build a first-of-its-kind, globally innovative manufacturing facility in Northern Queensland, Australia. This flagship site will set a new global benchmark in biomanufacturing, paving the way for rapid international expansion through a scalable, multi-site model.
The Director of Capital Projects is a strategic and mission-critical role, reporting directly to the CEO and a key member of the Executive Leadership Team. Success in this role will ensure Cauldron’s future by delivering this landmark facility on budget and on time, providing the foundation for Cauldron’s ambitious global growth strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
* Deliver Groundbreaking Capital Projects: Lead the end-to-end delivery of Cauldron’s portfolio of capital projects, ensuring the first-of-its-kind BioFab Contract Manufacturing Facility is operational on time and within budget.
* Strategic Planning & Execution: Develop and execute a robust Capital Project Delivery Framework, aligning with global best practices and the high standards required for this pioneering facility.
* Design, Construction & Commissioning: Oversee all phases of project delivery, from design and construction through to commissioning, while refining cost estimates and optimizing project execution.
* Collaborate Closely with the CSO: Work in deep partnership with the Chief Scientific Officer to integrate scientific insights into the design and development of the facility, ensuring it meets both operational and innovation goals.
* Supplier Relationship Management: Serve as the primary interface with the EPCM contractor and key suppliers, driving performance, accountability, and alignment with project milestones.
* Support Broader Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including joint venture partners, government entities, and financial partners, with a clear understanding that ultimate accountability for relationships such as NAIF (Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility) resides with the CFO.
Governance and Risk Management:
* Implement Best-in-Class Governance: Develop and enforce the Cauldron Capital Project Delivery Framework, ensuring rigorous governance of EPCM contracts and alignment with international standards.
* Process Safety & Compliance: Guarantee adherence to global best practices in process safety and regulatory frameworks, ensuring audit readiness and compliance with ISO and other international standards.
* Mitigate Risks: Proactively identify, assess, and manage risks across all project stages, implementing strategies to mitigate potential impacts on budget and timelines.
* Budget Accountability: Own the capital budgeting process, ensuring financial discipline and alignment with strategic priorities.
* Transparent Reporting: Deliver regular, transparent performance reports to the CEO and Executive Leadership Team, highlighting budget adherence and risk mitigation.
* Grant Management: Collaborate with the CFO to support the administration of awarded grants, including realizing the full benefits of committed government funding through diligent oversight.
People & Culture:
* Build and Lead a High-Performing Team: Establish the internal owner’s team needed to execute and govern capital projects, promoting a culture of excellence, accountability, and engagement.
* Develop Talent: Implement a structured training program to ensure the team meets global competency standards in capital project delivery.
* Leadership by Example: Champion Cauldron’s values, fostering a safe, inclusive, and high-performance work environment.
Key Requirements:
* Proven Capital Project Delivery: Demonstrated success in leading large-scale capital projects from conception to completion, particularly in biomanufacturing or other emerging industries.
* Executive Leadership Experience: Experience as a member of an executive leadership team, contributing to strategic business decisions and demonstrating exceptional accountability.
* Strategic and Hands-On Approach: Ability to balance strategic oversight with operational execution, maintaining focus on critical project milestones.
* Supplier Management Expertise: Strong experience managing supplier and contractor relationships, with a focus on EPCM contractors and other critical supply chain partners.
* Collaborative Approach: Proven ability to work closely with senior scientific leaders, translating innovative scientific requirements into practical and effective facility designs.
* Industry Relationships: Established connections with key players in the biomanufacturing and bioprocessing sectors, enabling effective stakeholder engagement and project acceleration.
* Remote Role in Eastern Australia: Must reside in one of Australia's Eastern states (Queensland, New South Wales, or Victoria), with the ability to travel as needed.
* Permanent Australian Residency: Must hold permanent Australian residency and full working rights in Australia.
* Regulatory and Safety Expertise: Deep knowledge of global regulatory standards and best practices in process safety and quality management systems, ideally in food and beverage industry.
