About the role: The role of the Social Work Field Educator is to support students integrate theory and practice and to develop their identity as a critical social worker within a professional practice context. This will involve providing professional supervision in placement settings where no on-site field educator is available, and/or being the university’s point of contact who liaises with students, field educators and agencies for established placements. In doing so, the appointee will promote the School and maintain links and partnerships with relevant academic, industry and professional communities. This position is suited to a person with an emerging record and passion for learning and teaching, a keen interest in contributing to community engagement for teaching and employability. As a Lecturer in Social Work, Education-focused, you will: Act as a Fieldwork Educator for Social Work students, guiding the establishment of learning goals and assessing learning outcomes. Provide support and oversight for students and on-site supervisors, addressing placement issues and managing any critical incidents that arise. Identify and develop new placement opportunities to meet the learning needs of Deakin Social Work students. Integrate industry, clinical, and research practices into the curriculum to enhance teaching and adopt innovative curriculum design at the unit level. Maintain academic standards and contribute to curriculum development in line with Deakin’s framework and external accreditation requirements, while participating in educational research projects. To be successful, you’ll have: PhD or Masters in a relevant discipline and/or other relevant qualifications and experience Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers At least 5 years post qualifying experience in social work including being a field educator Excellent record of scholarly learning and teaching in university-based programs or as a field educator Demonstrated passion for teaching and learning Ability to deliver effective teaching practices to improve student success and engagement Knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and contemporary issues related to First Nations Peoples.
