About the role
We are seeking a talented and professional Legal Assistant to join our Public Law team in our Canberra office. Working closely with the legal assistant team, we are looking for a team player to provide a high level of administrative support to a collaborative and dynamic practice.
There is plenty of variety in this role with the key responsibilities and duties including:
* Email and diary management
* Coordination of client and internal team meetings and internal/external functions
* Opening and closing of matters including e-filing and physical archiving via Aderant Expert (billing) and iManage (document management) systems
* Time entry, preparation and processing of monthly invoices
* Creating, drafting, proofreading, editing and formatting a range of complex documents
* Maintaining the team’s client database
* Assisting with business development and tendering activities
* Booking travel arrangements
About you
We are looking for a proactive and passionate team member to work closely with us and our clients. We are looking for someone who can maintain ownership of their role in a busy environment where no two days are the same. You will need to be able to demonstrate initiative, a willingness to learn, and display confidence and enthusiasm in completing all tasks. Above all, we are looking for someone who is collaborative and proactive.

In addition to this, ideally you will have:
* Previous experience as a legal assistant / secretary (or similar) with an understanding of legal terminology or (at a minimum) experience working in a professional services environment
* A high level of professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external stakeholders
* A proactive approach, enthusiasm to work independently and excellent organisational skills
* Strong typing and computer skills, and competent in the Microsoft Office Suite and relevant legal software programs (experience with iManage/Filesite and Aderant Expert is highly regarded)
* Attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate, high-quality work within set timeframes
