Senior Tax Specialist
Our client is a top 50 listed organisation and household brand in Australia. Due to a recent restructure within the team, we have a new position available for an experienced tax professional. This role can be based in either Sydney or Melbourne.
Reporting to the Head of Tax Compliance, you will play a pivotal role in the implementation of tax strategy and management of tax risks within the organisation as well as exposure to tax advisory matters.
As a driven, team-oriented and hands-on Senior Taxation Specialist, you will:
1. Assist to review and deliver the Australian tax compliance and reporting obligations, including income tax returns and tax-related financial reporting
2. Assist with management of tax assurance reviews, audits and disputes
3. Assist to prepare and deliver the tax transparency commitments including input into the Annual Report, Sustainability Report and Country by Country reporting
4. Embed the tax risk governance framework across the business (and its subsidiaries) and ensure relevant policies are in place and remain updated
5. Ensure governance procedures including controls testing and risk registers are maintained and managed, including liaising with Group Internal Audit
6. Assist with the preparation of tax updates to the Audit & Risk Committee and other key stakeholders
7. Contribute to the preparation of tax forecasts
8. Assist with identifying, developing and implementing process improvements to minimise tax risk exposure and increase operational efficiency of tax processes
9. Liaise with the ATO, external auditors and tax advisors; and
10. Analyse and provide specialist tax advice to internal customers in relation to major business initiatives, mergers and acquisitions, projects, and other transactions, and make recommendations to support commercial decision making, as required.
Skills/Qualifications and Attributes of the successful candidate:
11. Approximately 5-10 years experience working in Australian Corporate Tax with a compliance focus,
12. Some tax advisory experience,
13. Experience working either within a large corporate, a Big 4 accounting firm or a large mid-tier accounting firm,
14. Strong tax compliance skills and experience
15. Good tax advisory skills and experience
16. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills,
17. Ability to adapt to change and a fast-moving environment,
18. IT skills, including excel
19. Confidence in dealing with accounting concepts
20. Ability to manage workflow, work to deadlines, prioritise actions and work without supervision
21. Confidence in dealing with customers and colleagues
22. Good problem-solving skills
23. Degree qualified with a CA, CPA or Masters of Tax.
This role can be based in either Sydney or Melbourne. Hybrid working and job flexibility are available. This role is offered initially on a 12 month fixed term basis with potential permanent and extention options available.
