About This Opportunity
UQ Vets Urgent Care department is looking to expand our Small Animal Hospital nursing team and is seeking enthusiastic qualified Veterinary Technologists or Veterinary Nurses to join our dedicated team. We pride ourselves on providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced, compassionate environment. Our hospital offers state-of-the-art services, including emergency care, surgery, internal medicine, avian and exotics, anaesthesia and diagnostic imaging.
We offer 24/7 nursing support to our patients. As part of our team, you'll collaborate with experienced veterinarians, nursing and support staff while supporting the hands-on training of Veterinary Science and Veterinary Technology students.
This role features a rotating shift roster including days, afternoons, overnights, weekends and public holidays and remunerated accordingly.
Key responsibilities will include:
4. Provide skilful and professional support to a large team of veterinary staff, including veterinary specialists
5. Assess, monitor, treat and maintain excellent husbandry standards for patients in ICU, isolation and hospital wards
6. Liaise confidently and competently with a large team of veterinarians, veterinary specialists and support staff regarding patient treatment and care
7. Undertake correct care, cleaning and maintenance of technical and specialised instrumentation and equipment
8. Assist with radiography, Computer Tomography, Scintigraphy and M.R.I. procedures
9. Competently perform diagnostic clinical pathology techniques
10. Provide administrative support to all clinic staff as required and assist with reception duties as required in an efficient and effective manner.
11. Adhere to SOPs (standard operating procedures) for Nursing and contribute to review of SOPs.
12. Provide clinical training/teaching support for the School’s training/teaching of veterinary and veterinary technology students.
13. Provide a high level of customer service to clinic clients, veterinary students, staff and other external clients, both by phone and in person.
14. Assist with management of pharmacy inventory, including stock levels, prices and stock take, using the practice management software
15. Use practice management software to support the efficient administration and business management requirements.
As a 24-hour operation, your take-home salary will be dependent on your specific roster, including loadings of 50% for weekend shifts, 25% for night shifts, and 15% for afternoon shifts.
Afternoon shifts are shifts commencing at or after midday and finishing at or before midnight, Night Shift are shifts extending beyond midnight and finishing at or before 6AM. About You
24. Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing and/or Bachelor of Applied Science (Veterinary Technology) and/or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology plus at least 2 years nursing experience.
25. Or equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
26. Ability to work shift work including weekends, public holidays and overnight shifts (penalty rates apply)
27. Demonstrated ability to deliver and maintain high standards of professional veterinary nursing in all areas of nursing.
28. High level organisational skills.
29. Demonstrated ability to work flexibly with the use of initiative and autonomy.
30. Good written and oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to use these skills in managing professional & operational relationships with colleagues, clients and students.
31. Knowledge of ethical requirements, principles and practices relevant to all areas of veterinary nursing.
32. Knowledge and application of relevant policies and procedures applicable to employment, including workplace health and safety, employment equity and anti-discrimination.
33. An effective team player who maintains effective working relationships in a team. Environment.
34. Enthusiasm, initiative and self-motivation.
35. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and excellence in the field of veterinary nursing.
36. Interest in the clinical teaching of veterinary and veterinary technology professionals in training.
37. Willingness to participate in other professional service activities e.g. VNCA, community organisations, RSPCA, PetPEP (AVA).
38. Possess or be able to apply for a radiation license.
