An exciting opportunity exists for an Endorsed Nurse Practitioner or a Registered Nurse to take on a Transitional Nurse Practitioner (TNP) role in the Drug and Alcohol Service (D&A Service).
The Nurse Practitioner is a Registered Nurse authorised to function autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended clinical role within the Drug and Alcohol Service of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District.
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) role includes focused assessment and management of clients using advanced knowledge and skills which may include but are not limited to, ordering diagnostics investigations, prescribing medications, and direct referral of clients to other health professionals. The NP role is grounded in the nursing profession's values, knowledge, theories, and practice and provides innovative and flexible health care that complements other health providers.
The scope of practice of the NP is determined by the context within which the NP is authorised to practice.
The NP provides leadership that facilitates the ongoing development of clinical practice utilising research in the provision and development of education programs, clinical services planning, and development of clinical practice standards.
The NP is regarded as the senior nursing clinician and resource person for the Drug and Alcohol Service and works closely with the Manager of Nursing Services, Nurse Manager, Nurse Unit Managers, and Medical Director of the Drug and Alcohol Service in relation to the provision of a high standard of care for clients.
The NP manages and cares for clients, utilising a model of care that is appropriate, timely, and of high quality which is governed by the guidelines developed.
The TNP for the D&A Service is a temporary 3-year position and the incumbent will develop high-level clinical expertise and provide support to the D&A Service while working towards their endorsed Nurse Practitioner qualification. The TNP will develop autonomy in the D&A Service setting and will have the authority to make decisions consistent with their Scope of Practice (ScOP) and freedom to act on those decisions as per Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
