The Landsmith Collection are currently commencing their first season of organic market garden production at the 160ha Landsmith Home Farm site in Margaret River. We are dedicated to producing high-quality and sustainable produce on our 3.5ha market garden, whilst promoting organic farming practices and cultivating a strong community connection through our fresh, local offerings. The Market Garden will commence transition to organic certification in 2025.
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Team Supervisor to oversee our diverse operations in both greenhouse and field production. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and excellent communication skills, with a commitment to organic agriculture, and a desire to mentor and motivate a two to three person team. You’ll be supported by, and report to, the Market Garden Coordinator.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
* Maintain a safe working environment and contribute to a strong safety culture.
* Participate in and oversee a small team to perform all aspects of the operation from growing, harvesting and post-harvest operations, to packing and delivering orders (or preparing for pick-up).
* Implement planting and harvest schedules, fertiliser programs, crop rotation plans, crop health and quality monitoring programs and integrated pest and disease management programs, working closely with the Market Garden Coordinator.
* Ensure that all produce meets organic certification requirements and customer expectations.
* Ensure that biosecurity standards and procedures are followed across the team.
* Maintain accurate production records, including planting dates, requirements for organic certification, crop performance, inputs used and harvest records.
* Be comfortable with using market garden irrigation systems, and report faults as required.
Attributes and experience
* Experience with production horticulture in a commercial setting, ideally applying organic biological or similar methods.
* Strong knowledge of organic farming practices and pest management.
* Experience in managing and/or supervising a small team.
* Experience and confidence in working with machinery. This is primarily a tractor-based operation, so familiarity with machinery and implements is a requirement.
* Coachable, dependable and willing to advance and share learnings.
* Physically fit to work outside and perform manual work associated with farming.
* Knowledge and experience with irrigation management and maintenance.
* Able to both take direction and work extended periods without oversight.
Schedule and other requirements
* Occasional weekend work and longer than standard days may be required during seasonal peaks.
* A valid driver’s license and a commitment to safety in the workplace.
