The Company Our client is a well established farming entity, with long term supply agreements in the Bega Valley that is seeking a General Manager to oversee their farming operations. The business is one of the largest individual milk suppliers to the iconic Australian brand, Bega Cheese. The farming business sits across six full irrigated properties, optimising the production of its 1,500 genetically bred herd. It has invested in cutting edge technology, including a recently installed rotary dairy facility and other innovative herd/feed management tools. With a long history in the region and continued growth through effective leadership and succession planning, they now have an unique opportunity to join their business in a General Manager role. The Role As General Manager you will take leadership of a skilled dairy staff, and work closely with a range of agricultural consultant to ensure the continue growth of operations in the business. You will be responsible for: The day to day running of business operations; Herd management, dairy cow nutrition and welfare; Staff management, rostering and mentoring; Driving animal health and fostering a safe operating culture across the farms properties; Management of pasture allocation and irrigation; Operation and maintenance of machinery and equipment; Building and maintaining relationships with the local community including customers, suppliers and other stakeholders of the business; and Applying experience and expertise to drive continuous operational improvement. The Person The ideal candidate will be someone with: Extensive dairy industry experience in either a Farm Manager or Assistant Farm Manager position in a large-scale dairy operation; Tertiary qualifications in Agriculture or a related field are desirable; A commitment to ensuring a safe workspace and safety culture for the business; An interest in Agtech and new innovations in the workplace; Strong leadership skills and a passion for mentoring and developing team members; Understanding of local community dynamics, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders of the business; Strong computer literacy with the ability to understand and analyse dairy system data; Strong written and oral communications skills for effective board engagement; Sound business judgment and an entrepreneurial mind-set; and Being a team player with strong leadership skills, with the ability to develop trusting and open relationships with staff to ensure the farm maintains a positive working environment and culture.
