The Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA) is a key economic development agency working in partnership with our primary industries, regional stakeholders and across all levels of government to advance the prosperity and sustainability of SA’s primary industries and regional communities. The opportunity now exists for a Director, Animal Biosecurity to lead the delivery of animal biosecurity programs in South Australia, overseeing a multi-disciplinary team spread throughout South Australia responsible for disease surveillance, field operations, compliance, and Emergency Animal Disease (EAD) preparedness. This newly created role will ensure alignment with regulatory obligations, government goals, and PIRSA’s strategic priorities while mitigating risks to the livestock industry and community. Working closely with the Chief Veterinary Officer and Senior Managers, the Director fosters domestic and international market access and develops collaborative partnerships with stakeholders. The role emphasises continuous improvement, innovation, and strong leadership across the state's team. The successful candidate will be a strong, innovative leader with a proven track record, ideally with a solid understanding of a regulatory or compliance focused environment. In addition to holding a high standard of ethics and integrity, you will lead by example and work collaboratively to ensure the efficient and effective operational leadership of the Animal Biosecurity group. Fostering excellent communication channels and partnerships with stakeholders as well as enhancing staff capability will also be a key priority for the role.
