This is a 12-month fixed-term, full-time position (with the possibility of extension or permanency).
Located in the Wheatbelt Region, Narrogin lies near the Dryandra Woodland, a valuable nature conservation area. The region is popular with nature lovers for its diverse flora and fauna, walking trails and guided nocturnal tours of the Barna Mia animal sanctuary.
Under the limited direction of the Regional Manager:
1. Delivers parks and conservation compliance services in the region, leads investigations into unauthorised activities, conducts nature protection issue and licence assessments, assesses and issues nature protection licences, advises on nature protection issues generally, reports sightings of new introduced alien species in the wild and assists with capture/eradication where possible.
2. Maintains a close technical working relationship within compliance programs at the district, and regional level to provide for an integrated delivery of wildlife protection and Conservation and Land Management Act 1984 (CALM Act) compliance services across the region.
The successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current and satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.
Selection Criteria.
3. Considerable experience in conducting criminal investigations and knowledge of the general principals and procedures associated with the preparation of full briefs of evidence for criminal prosecutions.
4. Sound Knowledge of legislation, associated policies and guidelines relating to biodiversity and nature protection issues; and the management of CALM Act lands, experience in appropriately interpreting their application for wildlife nature protection and departmental land management issues, with a preference for those with an understanding of biodiversity protection, compliance management and regulation issues in Australia.
5. Working knowledge of the industries regulated under biodiversity and nature protection; ability to identify flora, fauna, and exotic animals, and experience in managing human interactions with wildlife.
6. Proven leadership, co-ordination, project management and organisational skills, including the ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure and achieve results.
