Position : Elementary Music Teacher
Location : St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic School
Reports To : Principal
St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic School in Gladstone, Missouri is seeking a part-time Elementary Music teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. The teacher serves the mission of the Catholic Church by planning, guiding, and evaluating the learning process of the students within the framework of the school's philosophy, organization, and curriculum. The teacher provides the appropriate learning atmosphere and activities designed to maximize student competencies and skills for intellectual, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual growth. The teacher has decision-making responsibilities in keeping with school policies and the Diocesan Schools Administrative Manual.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
2. Acts as a witness to the Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
3. Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Diocese
4. Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
5. Plans for instruction with specific student objectives and logically sequenced instruction based on the approved curriculum
6. Uses appropriate material and resources for students to engage in learning
7. Uses effective instructional methods according to professional best practices
8. Uses a variety of formative and summative assessments
9. Maintains current and accurate records
10. Practices positive, consistent discipline in the management of the classroom
11. Contacts parents when necessary for either academic or behavioral concerns
12. Conferences with parents upon request and responds to messages in a timely manner
13. Meets staff development guidelines as set forth by the Diocesan Schools Administrative Manual
14. Demonstrates professional work habits by regular attendance, honoring schedules/deadlines, organizing work, and conducting assigned tasks in an effective and efficient manner
15. Keeps the Principal informed of areas of need and concern
16. Follows the Diocesan curriculum guide and covers all required content
17. Serves on committees and performs other duties as directed by the Principal
18. Collaborates with peers to enhance the work environment and supports instructional planning
19. Demonstrates gains in student performance that are in keeping with school goals
20. Demonstrates a willingness to respond to individual learning needs
21. Attends school-wide functions and special events as required
22. Maintains professionalism in dress and hygiene
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
1. Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
2. Knowledge of subjects taught, instructional methods/strategies, and curriculum differentiation
3. Knowledge of child development, learning, and behavior
4. Able to manage student behavior in a classroom setting
5. Able to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally
6. Able to work well with others in the school community
7. Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously
8. Skill in pacing and differentiating instruction
9. Skill in motivating and engaging students in the learning process
10. Skill in organizing and relating information in an understandable format
11. Skill in critical thinking and planning
12. The ability to use appropriate technology including computer, smart board, projector, handheld devices, etc.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Education
2. Practicing Catholic in good standing is preferred, but not required.
