About the role
As a senior member of our Referral Services multidisciplinary team, you will provide specialist mental health assessments, intervention, consultation and liaison services to South West Healthcare's Warrnambool Emergency Department (ED). You will coordinate access to acute inpatient beds for consumers requiring them including seeking out of area beds if local access is unavailable. You will ensure all actions align with the principles of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 and that appropriate reporting and escalation as required under the Act are followed.
Senior Mental Health Clinicians provide a rapid response to people who require urgent or intensive specialist mental health assessment, treatment and support. Collaboration between Senior Mental Health Clinicians and the ED medical treating team, Ambulance and Victoria Police aims to provide specialist care for clients with co-occurring health needs.
Our Social Workers work using systematic mechanisms that ensure regular communication and the flow of information with other clinical staff and professionals, families, carers and stakeholder groups located both internally and externally to SWH.
Position Overview

3. Monday – Friday roster
This position is eligible for an incentive payment for rent, childcare, relocation costs and more, as part of the new workforce and incentive grants program administered by Rural Agency Workforce Victoria (RWAV) up to $10,000.
What you bring
The successful applicant will be an experienced and qualified Social Worker with at least 7 years of mental health experience with the ability to demonstrate excellent skills and broad experience in mental health clinical services, including a proven ability to work within a team based multi-disciplinary model. Previous experience in working in a similar assessment role would be an advantage.
Working as part of a collaborative and highly skilled team of professionals, excellent verbal and written communication skills are also essential. A comprehensive understanding and knowledge of legislation, regulation and contemporary practice is a must.
