Our team of researchers lead key internationally competitive research from molecules to medicines, from patient to policy across a range of therapeutic areas.As a Research Assistant, you will work with Dr Rachel Tan at the Brain and Mind Centre to understand the pathological underpinnings of Motor Neuron Disease and develop measures that will lead to improved patient diagnosis. You will develop and run protocols using histopathological techniques in human biosamples and be part of a lab that prioritises collaboration, openness, respect and encourages innovation. Opportunities exist to develop further research ideas through the supervision of research undergraduate and research postgraduate projects.Your key responsibilities will be to:Design, conduct, and troubleshoot experiments involving many optimisable variables.Work both independently and collaboratively to meet project objectives effectively.Time manage concurrent projects.Process, analyse, and interpret samples/datasets from large cohorts.Contribute to publication of manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals.About youExpertise in:Immunohistochemistry, microscopy and advanced image analysis techniques.Designing, conducting, and troubleshooting experiments involving many optimisable variables.Omics techniques and downstream bioinformatic processing is desirable.Strong problem-solving skills paired with the ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.Experience in supervising or mentoring others and coordinating team activities is desirable.To keep our community safePlease be aware of our COVID safety precautions which form our conditions of entry for all staff, students and visitors coming to campus.Sponsorship / work rights for AustraliaPlease note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
