The Salvation Army Youth Services offer an integrated suite of programs engaging with young people across Australia. Our services create intentional avenues for young people to explore opportunities, build support networks, and access, participate and contribute to their communities. Youth services provide a diverse range of programs which include housing and homelessness, driver training, education, employment, and training, AOD support, social and community activities, specialist therapeutic responses and youth justice programs.
About the role
We are seeking a values-driven Youth Support Worker who will deliver practical and emotional support to young people who are homeless and in crisis. To provide a referral service to appropriate community service providers. To deliver a safe, secure and clean environment for the client group, in a 24-hour accommodation setting. To work collaboratively with the wider team to achieve the best outcomes for young people.
You will successfully
* Develop effective and supportive relationships with clients, ensuring that each client is treated with respect, dignity and confidentiality.
* Develop a co-operative relationship with all staff members, to ensure an effective team approach to program implementations and service delivery.
* Plan, develop, implement and evaluate appropriate life skills and other appropriate programs for clients.
* Provide information and referral service to non-government and statutory organisations, community organisations and individuals as required.
* Assist clients to develop or re-establish appropriate family and social networks.
You will have
* A qualification in social work, youth work, community work or equivalent.
* Drivers Licence
* Working with Children Card
* A current first aid or the ability to quickly obtain one
* Experience working with young people who are homeless and/or in crisis within a Case Management Framework
* Experience working with young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and religions.
* Desirable that the successful applicants have an understanding of the issues faced by people experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, mental ill health and other disabilities.
* Demonstrated ability to deal with unpredictable situations and behaviour, violence and problems associated with homelessness, substance abuse and mental health conditions.
* Effective verbal and written communication skills; participate in the collection of data and report writing.
* Competent in Microsoft Office.
* Ability to use active listening skills, make an assessment on a crisis situation and use crisis intervention principles including conflict resolution within the community.
This is a permanent, part-time (11hrs per week) position located in Bundaberg, QLD. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability CRISIS Leve 1 Award.
