Program Leader – Biosecurity Risk Modelling Program As Program Leader – Biosecurity Risk Modelling, you will be leading and managing a team of highly skilled multidisciplinary scientists, economists, mathematicians and statisticians that develop model-based approaches and apply them to address biosecurity questions. You will be motivated by solving real-world problems and have primary responsibility for leading the development and implementation of the underpinning research agenda and interacting with the department to provide policy and operationally relevant advice. Who we are The Biosecurity Research and Analysis Branch in ABARES works independently and with the broader research and stakeholder community to provide solutions that contribute to the Department's strategic objective of strengthening our national biosecurity system to provide a risk-based approach and an appropriate level of protection for Australia's people, our environment and economy. The Biosecurity Risk Modelling program within the branch informs biosecurity decision-making by developing approaches and producing integrated socio-economic and biophysical analysis to quantify the impacts of pests and diseases and by developing and applying mathematical and statistical risk management tools and methods. The Job Duties and responsibilities include: Lead the development and application of integrated, quantitative desktop research and analysis on the economic, social and environmental impacts of pests and diseases (both realised and potential), and apply them to support biosecurity cost-benefit and resource allocation decision making. Oversee the preparation of reports, papers and presentations to support evidence-based policy. Provide effective and timely high-level advice to the Department, the ABARES Executive, and other stakeholder agencies and organisations. Provide strategic leadership to the program, build research and analysis capability, guide and mentor staff. Build and maintain partnerships and ensure effective communication and consultation with key stakeholders in ABARES, the Department and the broader research community. Conceive ideas for new projects based on stakeholder need and identify research opportunities for ABARES. Manage human and financial resources in accordance with the values and legislated frameworks of the Australian Public Service. What are we looking for Knowledge and experience The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate: Experience in developing and undertaking policy relevant, model-based, economic or scientific research and analysis, and in interpreting and advising on real-world problems. Experience in leading specialist research teams and in managing staff in a research environment. Knowledge of Australia's biosecurity system and an understanding of current and emerging issues confronting the system would be an advantage. Mandatory qualifications Relevant tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline. Honours or postgraduate qualifications would be an advantage. #J-18808-Ljbffr
