Their responsibility is to ensure that the project is delivered within the client's budget.
They will report and prepare forecasts, cash flow projections and cost reports as well as contract documents for the project.
An integral part of cost management is communication and great attention to detail; it is the cost manager's responsibility to keep the client informed of project finances and to effectively manage any risks associated with this.Your Apprenticeship:As an Apprentice Surveyor, you will spend 4.5 years completing the Chartered Surveyor degree apprenticeship.
As part of this programme, you will be working towards your BSc degree and your professional qualification: Chartership with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).The first two years of the programme will be spent enrolled on the Apprenticeship pathway of the G&T Chartership Academy to ensure you can relate the theoretical aspects of your studies to your on-the-job experience.
Moving into year three, you will join our industry leading Graduate pathway of the Chartership Academy where your APC structured training will begin.Role Overview:Working within a team, you will be assisting your Line Manager with various aspects of daily work.
You will be learning about the firm, the work we do, the sectors we work in, the projects we work on, and the wider industry.Alongside developing your technical knowledge, you will be guided by the professionals in your team to gain valuable on the job experience to support you in your studies and final assessment.
You will gain valuable experience working in a business environment and will be developing your communication skills as well as becoming familiar with the processes and procedures relevant to your role as a cost manager.The role will be varied although the actual experience gained will be dependent on the team and sector you are working in.
You will spend an allocated amount of your time each week dedicated to your university studies alongside others in your apprenticeship cohort.General ResponsibilitiesIn conjunction with your line manager the role will typically include the following:Taking measurements of buildings, land, or plans, and reviewing costsMeasuring drawings from the Design team, either by hand or using measurement software such as Cost XSupporting the team in producing cost plans for the client which will act as a budget for the projectAttending site and carrying out a valuation of the works which have been carried out to dateAttending site meetings – depending on the stage of project for either design team meetings or progress meetings with the contractor and project teamTaking effective meeting notes & formal minute taking as part of the discussionsCommunicating with relevant parties e.g.
liaising with suppliers for a quote for works or materialsWorking towards becoming a professional with expert knowledge of construction costs and contractsObtaining and providing information relating to relevant projects, quickly and effectivelyCollecting and recording information relating to projects for technical useManaging work tasks relating to the project/s, writing reports, and assisting with the preparation of tender documents, contracts, budgets, and other documentationSkilled use of ExcelRequired Qualifications & SkillsA Level BBB (or equivalent) /128 UCAS tariff points (or an equivalents level of attainment through recognised qualifications)Must hold 5 GCSE's A-C including Maths and English or equivalent (reformed GCSE grade 4 or above)Good working knowledge of current IT systemsUnderstand the importance of client care & relationshipsTrustworthy and reliableAbility to prioritise work efficientlyAbility to work to deadlinesAbility to work as part of a team and on own initiativeProactive and flexible approach to different situationsDedication and commitmentDesire to learnGenuine interest in construction and property
