Overview
You will work within the Barossa and Gawler region to increase alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) screening rates for mothers of Aboriginal babies and children, and Aboriginal people with comorbid health and mental health conditions. You will strive to promote early intervention and improved continuity of care with strengthened referral pathways. This will aim to minimise the ongoing impacts of substance use on the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people, families, and communities. Identifying quality improvement opportunities, you will provide training to colleagues to build confidence in undertaking ATOD screening, strengthening referral pathways, and promoting early intervention to reduce the harms of ATOD use. SA Health is committed to improving the health of Aboriginal South Australians. Promoting positive mental health in the community and expanding mental health literacy programs, we are developing culturally appropriate models of care for Aboriginal Health and extending Aboriginal community engagement. Increasing access and equity to health services, we are committed to addressing the social determinants of Aboriginal health.
Holding a Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, you will have prior experience working within the Aboriginal Primary Care Sector. This will be evident in your success in liaising and negotiating with management, professional staff and community groups and representatives that engage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations. Demonstrating sound knowledge of alcohol and other drug issues, responses, and services, you will be capable of working both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Your strong communication skills will equip you to work effectively with diverse individuals and agencies.
