About the role: We have a number of exciting opportunities available for energetic and skilled Forklift Operators to join our teams at our depots in Darwin/East Arm and Alice Springs. Working under general direction, the Forklift Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient loading and unloading of vehicles and containers with freight to legal capacity and blending freight to achieve maximum payloads.
This position will be full time, working in our freight division, reporting to the Operations Managers/Supervisors.
Job tasks and responsibilities:
1. Ensure pre-start check is undertaken before use of forklift and other equipment certifying the equipment is in good working order.
2. Operate forklift and other machinery safely and in accordance with policies and procedures.
3. Ensure all inbound and/or outbound freight is:
1. Accurately scanned, matched, sorted and placed safely into correct locations.
2. ‘Checked, Weighed and Cubed’ (CWC) to reduce revenue leakage.
3. Accounted for with accompanying paperwork in good order.
4. Unloaded and/or loaded safely with zero damage within set time limits.
5. Blended effectively to maximise load revenue.
6. Compliant with legislative requirements with regards to load mass.
7. Compliant with Chain of Responsibility including appropriate load restraint.
4. Review consignment notes and provide feedback to Supervisors on quality/issues.
5. Match freight and connotes: no miss-sorted or miss-loaded freight.
6. Ensure all inbound units are completely cleaned and all pallets, load restraint equipment and dunnage are recorded, removed and placed in the appropriate locations.
7. Report all incidents of damage, shortages, split consignments etc. to supervisor in a timely manner.
8. Record dunnage as per procedure and ensure load restraint equipment is correctly allocated.
9. Ensure the yard is kept organised and tidy.
10. Work toward a target of zero near miss incidents or accidents.
11. Build and maintain professional working relationships with all levels of the organisation.
12. Contribute to shared goals and work effectively as part of a team.
13. Review processes and procedures and recommend and implement improvement initiatives.
14. Any other reasonable tasks or projects as requested by your manager.
To be considered for this role, applicants must:
1. Have a genuine commitment to Health, Safety & Environment practices.
2. Demonstrate integrity, trustworthiness, professionalism and a customer-centric approach to problem solving.
3. Possess a current and valid Class LF Forklift Licence (High Risk Work Licence).
4. Have experience operating a Forklift in a similar environment and/or industry.
5. Have solid experience loading and unloading freight that is oversized, ugly, long lengths, general, non-palletised.
6. Have suitable physical ability to handle repetitive lifting (manual handling) of freight up to 20kgs.
7. Demonstrate the ability to work and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
8. Have previous experience working towards targets and deadlines.
9. Show good time management skills coupled with resilience and adaptability.
10. Prove the ability to visualise and plan the load.
11. Be able to work autonomously and unsupervised coupled with a proactive attitude.
12. Exhibit good language, literacy and numeracy skills.
13. Actively participate in team meetings, safety meetings and training programs as required.
All freight is Checked, Weighed and Cubed (CWC) and any anomalies reported to the supervisor. Ensure all measurables regarding scanning, damages, DIFOT (Delivery in Full and On Time), safety, pallets are met. Loading and unloading of general freight including long lengths, ugly, oversized freight safely and with zero damage. Meeting set loading and unloading deadlines whilst maintaining safety and zero damages.

Job benefits and perks: An effective salary of between $60,001 - $80,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience is on offer. Remuneration will reflect current market conditions and industry award rates and will be discussed with the successful applicant.
