The Victorian water sector is leading in:Gender Equality: 58% of members of catchment management authority (CMA) boards are women.The Victorian Government is committed to increasing diversity on water sector boards to encourage new ideas and reflect the rich diversity of the Victorian community.In line with the Yarra River Protection (Wilip-gin Birrarung murron) Act 2017 (the YRP Act), the main functions of the Birrarung Council (the Council) are to:Advocate for the protection and preservation of the Yarra River, Birrarung.Provide advice to the Minister on the:Development of the Yarra Strategic Plan (YSP), including the adequacy of public participation.Implementation of the YSP.Operation and effectiveness of the YSP and its contribution to the protection and improvement of Yarra River, Birrarung land, and the environmental, cultural and heritage values of Yarra River, Birrarung land, including the waterway health of the Yarra River, Birrarung.Report annually to the Minister on the implementation of the YSP.About the roleThis is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the Victorian water sector, with 3 council member positions including Chairperson becoming vacant on 1 October 2025 on the Birrarung Council.Under the YRP Act, the Minister appoints a maximum of 12 members to Council and membership includes:A ChairpersonAt least 2 nominees from the Wurundjeri Tribe Land and Compensation Cultural Heritage Council Inc.
