We work to ensure a balance between the need for regulation, and the need to facilitate land use and development and encourage residents, businesses and visitors to live, work in and enjoy the city.The Principal Urban Planner reports to the Manager Statutory Planning. The position processes and makes decisions / recommendations on planning applications and referrals, including complex land use and development proposals and major projects of local and state significance in line with the principles identified above. The position is also required to provide expert technical and general planning advice to both internal and external customers.The Manager Statutory Planning for the work area determines the short and long term priorities of the Planning Team and assigns work accordingly. The Principal Urban Planner provides assistance to the Manager Statutory Planning in the areas of team leadership, management, performance, monitoring and resource allocation / process improvement.You can bring… (Selection criteria)Qualification to degree level in urban planning or eligibility for affiliate membership of PIA and undertaking an approved tertiary course.Extensive experience in a planning office with expert knowledge of the Planning and Environment Act and planning processes.Highly developed interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate, mediate, negotiate and resolve conflicts.High level organisational skills and the ability to work in a semi-autonomous environment.Ability to represent Council at public forums such as public consultation meetings and VCAT.By joining us, you will become part of a remarkable team who work in a constructive and inclusive culture to shape the future of this city.
