Our Values also underpin our pro-integrity culture, where we promote professionalism and ethical work standards, and embed integrity in all aspects of our work. The opportunity we have available
A little bit about us
The Communications Services and Consumer Division supports the Minister for Communications to deliver positive consumer and business outcomes related to communications infrastructure and services. This includes safeguards to provide access to post, telephone, payphone and broadband services nationally, expanding mobile coverage in regional Australia and protecting vulnerable members of the community.
The Regional Communications Branch provides strategic policy advice and delivers programs that support the delivery of communications services to all Australians, including those in regional and rural Australia. The Branch is dynamic, collaborative and strategic, with an emphasis on delivering policy solutions and programs, and providing informed advice to Ministers and the Executive. We work with a range of stakeholders, including the telecommunications industry, state and territory governments, and other Australian government agencies. Our work is diverse, fast-paced, and provides opportunities for professional growth.
The Design and Regional Broadcasting Team manages various key programs and projects, including the Shortland Television Terrestrial Transmission project which entails working with the Australian Communications and Media Authority to explore options to improve television reception in the electorate of Shortland. The team also oversees the Viewer Access Satellite Television (VAST) service. The VAST platform was introduced in 2010 and provides free-to-air television broadcasting services over satellite to areas of Australia that are unable to receive terrestrial transmissions due to remoteness and/or terrain, including First Nations Communities.
We are seeking a Senior Project Officer to support the team across various key projects. This will include organising meetings with internal and external stakeholders, drafting briefing for senior executives and the Minister. The Senior Project Officer can also expect to contribute to ministerial correspondence, talking points and other written material on VAST and regional television reception broadcasting issues. The Senior Project Officer will also gain exposure to the broader telecommunications industry, and to broader issues impacting regional Australia.
Who are we looking for?
To be a successful applicant you should demonstrate your capability in the following areas by giving examples of experiences using your skills and knowledge:
great communication, analysis and research skills, with the ability to assess comprehensive information, distil key messages and adapt your delivery to influence your audience
well-developed writing skills, with the ability to prepare strategic advice which you contribute to briefings, ministerial correspondence and program report writing for executive and ministers
organisational skills such as good time management and an ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities;
develop and maintain relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders; and
work independently and taking initiative to manage own work flows and raise issues with team leaders.
