Institute for Molecular Bioscience Full-time (100%), permanent position Base salary will be in the range $78,944.40 - $87,750.37 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 5) Based at our St Lucia Campus About This Opportunity The Technical Officer works as part of a team to provide specialist technical support for the Institute for Molecular Bioscience’s research activities by fault-finding, repairing and maintaining scientific and laboratory equipment. Key responsibilities will include: Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on a large range of mechanical, electromechanical and electronic scientific/laboratory equipment often to component level. (HPLC’s, centrifuge’s, spectrophotometers, PCR machines, vacuum pumps, shakers,CO2 Incubators, etc). Carry out routine maintenance on scientific/laboratory equipment as per scheduled maintenance program and as directed by the Workshop Manager. Maintain records on equipment repair history, log jobs and update job progress on the computer database. Source, cost and procure parts as necessary to undertake repairs. Liaise with researchers and build services to determine the nature or history of a problem and develop a satisfactory solution. Provide excellent customer service to students, researchers and staff. Follow up with external contractors on outsourced repairs. Design and manufacture lab equipment to aid in specific experimental procedures as specified by researchers. Undertake training on industry specific equipment. Electrical test new equipment and record asset details at point of arrival. Queensland Restricted electrical licence or eligibility to obtain one. Extensive experience post trade qualification with a broad range of mechanical, electronic and electromechanical equipment, including an ability to quickly diagnose and rectify faults in unfamiliar equipment. Knowledge and skills to safely work on mains powered 240VAC equipment. Demonstrated knowledge and experience of general engineering and safe use of hand/power tools to manufacture basic parts. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with others from varied backgrounds. Professional and service-oriented approach to customer needs. Highly motivated with a strong level of initiative. Sound computer skills and ability to learn different applications. Desirable Scientific, biomedical, and/or analytical industry specific training. Experience in repairs & maintenance of scientific, biomedical, and/or analytical equipment.
