The branch is involved in a diverse range of matters, including but not limited to:Police duties, powers and responsibilities;Criminal law, criminal disclosure obligations and criminal procedure;Statutory interpretation;Administrative law, privacy and information sharing;Responding to subpoenas, including making public interest immunity claims;Intervention order applications and summary prosecutions.Please note this role is located at Victoria Police's corporate headquarters.About the roleAn exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Legal Assistant to join our Police Advisory Branch as part of the legal support team that provides comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to a team of solicitors. Day to day responsibilities would include:Preparing correspondence and court documents – drafting and typingAssisting in preparing matters for court, including liaising with clients and barristersAmending, formatting and redacting documentsPreparation of large e-briefs to counselGeneral administration – photocopying, printing and scanningSkills and experienceDemonstrated experience providing legal support at a senior levelExperience supporting litigation matters is highly regardedConfident in providing high level legal administrative assistance to more than one solicitorStrong understanding of court systems and proceduresSelf-starter who takes initiative and has the ability to operate autonomouslyExcellent attention to detail with a commitment to service excellencePlease note, a requirement of this role is holding a Baseline security clearance or be willing to obtain one.VGSO offers an inclusive, collegiate and collaborative work environment where you will be well-supported and mentored to develop your knowledge.
