We are seeking Expressions of Interest from both Advanced Trainees (AT) and Service Registrars in Paediatrics for Fixed Term Full Time opportunities for 6 and/or 12 months with the possibility of extension(s) commencing in August 2025.These positions will be based in Geraldton.About The PositionsThe AT and Service registrar roles at Geraldton Health Campus paediatric department will involve:Inpatient paediatric wardMinimum of 3 clinics/week, mix of developmental, medical and outreachWeekly clinic at Geraldton Regional Aboriginal Medical Service (GRAMS)Provision of regional outreach clinics to Burringurrah, Carnarvon, GRAMS Gascoyne Outreach Service (GOS), Exmouth, Meekatharra, Mt Magnet, Morawa and MullewaInpatient neonates at Geraldton Health Campus, deliveries from 34/40, level 2 Special Care Nursery, including CPAP, and supported by NETS (Western Australia’s Neonatal Emergency Transfer Service)Geraldton Health Campus is accredited for up to 12 months training, with general and rural training with a perinatal component, and with 6 months Developmental and Psychosocial Training if the candidate takes a 12-month attachment.There is a total of 6 beds on the paediatric ward, with an annual paediatric admission of 900. There are between 450 - 500 deliveries per year.The paediatric team at Geraldton Health Campus consists of 4 consultant paediatricians, 6 registrars, 2 Resident Medical Officers, including one Community Residency Program (CRP) and 1 Intern. Registrars contribute to overnight on-call roster (one per week with consultant back up) and weekend coverage.There is on site consultant supervision for inpatients and outpatients, and numerous online resources, including the Rural Child Health Training Module run through Victoria, the teaching through State Child Development Centre and VC links with Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH).About The RegionThe WA Country Health Service (WACHS) Midwest health region of Western Australia covers more than 470,000 square kilometres, nearly one fifth of the State, with its population concentrated along the coast. The region is located in the northern middle section of Western Australia and incorporates three health districts - Gascoyne, Geraldton, Midwest and Murchison, is recognized for its unique natural environment and is a culturally diverse region with Aboriginal people representing 13% of the overall population.Geraldton is part of WA’s Coral Coast and is world renowned for an extensive host of water sports including spectacular kitesurfing, windsurfing, fishing and diving. The Abrolhos Islands are 70km offshore and have many fantastic diving and snorkelling locations. Nearby National Parks are great for hiking and camping. Geraldton has an enviable Mediterranean climate and a relaxed seaside lifestyle which lends itself to a host of activities, especially water sports. There are good schools in the residential areas which are located a short drive from the hospital.Geraldton Hospital is the major medical resource centre for the Midwest district of WA. The ED sees approximately 36,000 presentations per year including a large proportion of paediatrics and Aboriginal patients, with high activity and an admission rate of about 22%. A highly varied case-mix will provide many opportunities to gain hands-on procedural skills and a broad clinical experience. You will gain expertise in Aboriginal Health issues and management, as well as rural and remote practice.Geraldton Hospital has 100 hospital beds for acute medical, surgical, paediatric and maternity patients with a 24-hour Emergency Department, onsite chemotherapy and renal dialysis. It provides a comprehensive range of patient care service including medical imaging and pathology. Visiting specialists provide varied learning opportunities for junior doctors across a range of specialties.The hospital has a strong association with the local Aboriginal Medical Service (GRAMS), Private Hospital (SJOG) and GP community. There are plans well underway for redevelopment of the emergency department and inpatient services. Individual department models of care are under review, with medical workforce profiles strengthened.
