About the Role
You will foster innovation in teaching and learning and will provide both academic and administrative support for teaching and for tutor training in the School of Mathematics and Statistics. In addition to delivering lectures and coordinating subjects at the undergraduate level and contributing to the MSLC’s academic and administrative activities you will contribute to learning and teaching innovation in the School
Your responsibilities will include:
5. Undertaking lectures and small group classes including Workshops, Tutorials and Computer Laboratories
6. Contribute to research into mathematics or statistics education and teaching pedagogies, especially at the undergraduate level.
7. Advising students on academic and administrative matters pertaining to the subject and course
8. Developing subject teaching material, such as lecture notes, tutorial activities, revision materials as appropriate
9. Actively participate and contribute to planning activities or committee work to support capacity building in the School and discipline.
Who We Are Looking For
You will have a proven track record of exceptional teaching in mathematics or statistics, a history of innovative teaching methods, active engagement in the scholarship of teaching and learning, adept presentation skills in both physical and virtual settings, superb organizational abilities, and excellent English communication skills
You will also have:
10. A PhD in mathematics, statistics, or another relevant discipline
11. An understanding of issues relevant to first-year University students, including the changing landscape of mathematics/statistics education post-pandemic and generative AI.
12. Experience using an online automated assessment system in mathematics or statistics (such as, but not limited to, WebWork, STACK or NUMBAS), including developing assessment questions in such systems
13. Strong digital literacy in educational technology relevant to teaching in mathematics and statistics, including strong computer programming skills
