What you'll do: Based at our offices in Brisbane, this position reports to Team Leader Production Engineering – Cooper Subsurface and is responsible for optimising Santos' assets to economically produce every hydrocarbon molecule safely, whilst reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The Senior Production Engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to: Maximise satellite capacity, optimise production and minimise production shortfall from lease edge to satellite export.
Identify network pressure trends to inform a base well reinstatement program, wellhead screw compressor relocation program and debottlenecking program to maximise asset production rate and reserve.
Drive improvement opportunities (risk, cost, production and emissions).
Key responsibilities of the role include: Production Optimization: Analyse well and field performance to identify opportunities for production enhancement, artificial lift optimization, and well intervention strategies.
Well & Reservoir Management: Work closely with Reservoir Engineering, Field Operations, and Surface Facilities teams to monitor reservoir behaviour and ensure alignment between subsurface and surface constraints.
Well Intervention & Workover Planning: Lead the design and execution of well interventions, workovers, and stimulation programs to enhance production and extend well life.
Artificial Lift Optimization: Develop and implement strategies for ESPs, beam pumps, and other artificial lift systems to maximize efficiency and reliability.
Data Analysis & Surveillance: Utilize real-time data, production trends, and diagnostic tools to troubleshoot well performance issues and recommend remedial actions.
Cost Control & Budgeting: Provide input into annual budgets, optimize operational expenditure, and drive cost-effective solutions while maintaining production targets.
Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with Drilling & Completions, Reservoir Engineering, Surface Facilities, and Field Operations teams to ensure integrated decision-making and execution.
HSE & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all production activities comply with Santos' HSE standards and relevant regulatory requirements.
Technology & Innovation: Identify and implement new technologies or workflows to improve efficiency, reduce operating costs, and enhance oil recovery.
This is a full time, office-based role with site roster to the Cooper Basin.
It is a unique and rewarding role in which the successful candidate will oversee production enhancement and production gain, with full visibility of the impact their work has!
What you'll bring: A degree in Petroleum, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent).
8+ years of experience in production engineering, preferably in onshore oil field operations.
A strong understanding of artificial lift systems, production optimization techniques, and well intervention strategies.
Experience in well performance analysis, nodal analysis, and decline curve analysis.
Proficiency in production engineering software (e.g., Prosper, OFM, WellFlo, or equivalent).
A strong ability to collaborate across technical and operational teams to drive performance improvements.
A safety-first mindset with a solid understanding of HSE principles and regulatory compliance.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
