The Work Health and Safety (WHS) Manager at Joint Logistics Unit – (Victoria) (JLU-(V)) is responsible for providing timely and accurate health and safety advice. The position is responsible to the Commander JLU(V) and provides overarching SME advice to all sites across JLU(V).
The WHS Manager at JLU(V) is critical in ensuring the Unit operates in a safe and effective manner and monitors legislative compliance in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011. The role is responsible for providing advice on corrective actions and outcomes to ensure WHS compliance.
Supporting a team of WHS professionals, the role is responsible for providing sound guidance and advice to site managers and the executive team across the three main sites of JLU(V), which consists of complex and large-scale maintenance and warehousing work.
The APS 6 Work Health and Safety Manager is accountable to perform and achieve complex WHS work within an integrated workforce.
The APS WHS Manager is accountable for organising their workflow and making independent decisions relating to their area of responsibility. The role undertakes research and analysis, conducts reviews and investigations, and performs procedural, clerical and administrative support work to achieve results.
About our Team
JLU(V) spans across Victoria and Tasmania where it operates warehouses, equipment maintenance facilities and clothing stores. The WHS Manager will be involved in complex and large-scale work conducted across the JLU(V) sites.
This role works as part of the Business Management Team reporting directly to the Business Manager. You will be required to work cohesively across JLU(V) and engage with internal and external stakeholders at various levels. You will be part of an integrated team of APS, ADF and contracted workforce. The team is driven by a ‘one team’ approach and fosters a supportive and positive working environment.
Our Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who has an extensive background in Workplace Health and Safety and who is skilled in hazard and risk identification management and trend analysis. In this role you will:
1. Provide WHS advice to support the functions of business units, including advising managers on best practices.
2. Interpret WHS legislation and policy and present this information in a clear concise manner to Command and staff at all sites.
3. Engage with stakeholders (including ADF, APS and Industry Partners) on complex and sensitive WHS issues and provide timely and accurate professional advice.
4. Manage and provide guidance on incident responses and WHS investigations.
5. Manage conflicting priorities.
6. Utilise excellent communication skills to continually improve WHS management systems.
