Overview
As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing sector-wide strategies, systems, and programs that improve work health and safety outcomes in high-risk mining, quarrying, and mineral processing industries.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide strategic professional expertise to develop and implement objectives, initiatives, and solutions for mining, quarrying, and mineral processing work health and safety in Tasmania.
* Offer high-level specialist professional advice within WorkSafe Tasmania and to industry on mining and mineral processing safety, and operational issues.
* Develop and maintain high-level relationships with internal and external clients, stakeholders, industry bodies, local, state, and commonwealth departments, and other national organisations.
* Monitor workplace compliance within the aligned and adopted Tasmanian legislative frameworks administered by WorkSafe Tasmania.
* Investigate workplace incidents and accidents including fatalities and manage workplace complaints, providing reports for prosecution, the coroner, and internally within agreed timeframes.
* Represent the Department and the Government professionally at a state level on a range of committees and at conferences as required.
Requirements
* Bachelor's degree in engineering specifically in mining engineering from a recognised university eligible to become a professional engineer recognised by Engineers Australia.
* Recent mining engineering experience of around 10 years' duration preferably with experience in mining geotechnical engineering.
