The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.
What will you do?
In this role, you will be an integral and valued member of a highly skilled and high-performing Aboriginal Children and Family Advocacy and Support team (ACFAS) which is part of the Care & Protection/Family Law Practice. You will lead a multi-disciplinary team, engage with key stakeholders, and ensure Aboriginal cultural excellence and safety are central to service delivery.
Each day, you can expect to:
* Lead the development and implementation of the ACFAS Program.
* Manage daily operations, staffing, and service delivery.
* Engage with stakeholders and community in service design.
* Provide leadership and guidance to a multidisciplinary team.
* Ensure alignment with Aboriginal cultural practice and Closing the Gap objectives.
Who are we looking for?
A highly skilled and motivated individual with a thorough understanding of the cultural, social, and historical needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You will be able to demonstrate:
* Must Identify as Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander to be considered for this position which is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
* Tertiary qualifications in Social Work or related fields.
* Experience in legal or social support sectors.
* Excellent people management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
* Knowledge of Closing the Gap policies and experience working with Aboriginal families in the justice system.
* Project or Program management experience.
