* Location: Canberra ACT
* Lead a Small, Highly Capable Team
* Drive Processes & Efficiencies
* Act as a value-add finance business partner to the GM
* Must possess full working rights in Australia
The Opportunity:
With over a century of heritage and the polish of a recent multimillion-dollar refurbishment, this is more than a five-star property—it’s a cornerstone of the nation’s capital. Tucked away in a serene setting that feels more like a resort than a city hotel, it’s long been the home-away-from-home for visiting diplomats, government officials, business leaders, and discerning travellers.
This is your opportunity to step into a high-profile leadership role where prestige, purpose, and performance intersect. As Director of Finance, you'll be central to strategic decision-making, operational effectiveness, and the financial health of one of Canberra’s most revered institutions.
Role Profile:
Reporting to the General Manager and partnering with senior leaders across the hotel, you’ll lead the Finance function while also overseeing IT and Purchasing.
This is not a back-office role. This is a seat at the table.
Key responsibilities include:
* Financial Strategy & Oversight : Own the hotel’s financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, compliance, and reporting—both for the business and its ownership group.
* Business Partnering : Act as a commercial sounding board for the GM and department heads, driving profitability while supporting operational excellence.
* Stakeholder Management : Liaise with internal leaders, auditors, and ownership representatives with confidence, clarity, and credibility.
* Leadership & Development : Lead a team spanning Finance, Purchasing, and IT—building capability, improving systems, and fostering a high-performance culture.
* Controls & Compliance : Ensure alignment with global standards, local regulatory requirements, and best practice financial governance.
* Process Improvement : Identify opportunities to streamline procedures, reduce waste, and enhance commercial agility across the business.
You’ll be given the platform, autonomy, and support to make a tangible difference—both operationally and strategically.
Successful Candidate Profile:
You’ll be a seasoned hotel finance professional with a commercial mindset, calm under pressure, and confident engaging with executive-level stakeholders.
We’re looking for:
* Hotel Expertise : At least 5 years’ experience in a senior finance leadership role within a large hotel or luxury hospitality environment (essential).
* CA/CPA qualification, with robust technical knowledge and practical commercial application.
* Strategic Influence : A strong grasp of how finance supports business performance—and the ability to communicate that vision across all levels.
* High EQ : Emotional intelligence and exceptional interpersonal skills—able to collaborate, challenge, and support in equal measure.
* Leadership Credibility : Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and mentoring finance professionals.
* Systems Proficiency : Familiarity with hotel management systems like Opera and Sun is advantageous.
* Professional Polish : Someone who brings gravitas, discretion, and a solutions-focused mindset to every conversation.
If you’re a finance leader who thrives in collaborative environments and enjoys balancing strategic thinking with operational detail—this is your stage.
Why Canberra?
Canberra is often Australia’s best-kept secret—and it’s time to let you in on it.
* Lifestyle Balance : Short commutes, clean air, and the kind of quiet you didn’t know you were missing.
* Family Friendly : Excellent schools, low crime, green spaces, and world-class amenities.
* Cultural Capital : Museums, galleries, festivals, and a thriving food and wine scene.
* Nature on Your Doorstep : Bushwalks, bike rides, and weekend winery visits just minutes away.
* High-Profile Without the Hustle : Hold a prestigious leadership role—without the traffic jams, sky-high rents, or Sydney/Melbourne chaos.
Make the move. Advance your career in a city built for living well.
