Position Vacancy
Applicants are invited from suitably qualified personnel for the position of Cane Rail Labourer. This position reports to the Cane Railway Superintendent and is responsible for Tramline maintenance and repairs as a member of a small tramline gang. The person we are seeking will have a proven high standard of attendance and punctuality as well as the ability to lead & work effectively as a member of a small team. This role is a high energy position and requires an enthusiastic candidate with the ability to implement and adapt to improvement processes. Current vacancies are a permanent position and a fixed term position.
This position may require shift, day work, weekends and some overtime depending on the needs of the business.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
1. Communicate effectively and work effectively as part of a team with other members of a tramline gang
2. Maintain tools and gear in good order
3. Maintain good housekeeping
4. Tramline work such as changing sleepers, packing ballast, tamping, track positioning etc.
5. Identify the various types of rail and their correct use
6. Manual cleaning of points to ensure their safe operation
7. Oxy cutting of rail and bolts
8. Bin clearing at derailments including directing crane drivers and lifting empty bins
9. Be available for call outs to derailments and urgent repairs to tramline during the crushing season
10. Work on bridges
Selection Criteria will include the following:
11. Hold a manual 'C' class driver's license
12. Hold a manual 'MR' class driver's licence
13. Excellent communicate skills
14. Provide regular and accurate feedback to leadership team
15. On-Track Maintenance Machinery experience
16. Lead and work effectively as a member of a small team
17. Experience in tramline works

18. Working at Heights Ticket
19. Confined Space Ticket
20. Chainsaw
21. ChemCert (Working with Chemicals Certification)
22. First Aid
23. Dogger HRWL
24. 20T Non-Slewing Crane HRWL
25. Front End Loader Ticket
26. Vehicle Loading Crane Ticket
27. Hold a manual 'HR' class driver's licence
Training may be provided as required.
As a Herbert Region employee, the successful applicants in the above position will be required to commence or finish work on time at any Herbert Regional work site depending on the needs of the business.
