About the team
The Production and Maintenance Team provides the skills and comprehensive engineering, electronics, IT, workshop fabrication and maintenance capabilities required for Questacon’s delivery of distinctive science and technology based interactive exhibitions.

Our ideal candidate
Our ideal candidate will have:
* Trade qualifications, or relevant experience and demonstrated abilities and a background in exhibition maintenance. A variety of workshop base level trade skills including carpentry, tool making, welding and fabrication of metals and familiarity with electronic interfaces would be an advantage.
* Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, analyse and resolve maintenance issues including experience and understanding of sourcing material and components.
* Experience with documentation and administration of accounts, environmental and safety auditing and record keeping.
* Demonstrated experience in delivery of scheduled and responsive safety and maintenance programs.
* Experience and an understanding of sourcing materials and components would be an advantage.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team in an environment with competing priorities and tight deadlines.
* Experience with science based interactive exhibits would be an advantage.
* Demonstrated self-awareness, professionalism and a proven commitment to APS values, Code of Conduct and Workplace Health and Safety principles and practices.
* Current drivers licence.
What you will do
As the Production Team Maintenance Assistant, you will:
* Provide maintenance support within the Production and Maintenance Team and across the organisation with the position based at both Questacon facilities – Parkes and Deakin.
* Provide skills and knowledge and capability to assist in the development and maintenance of a range of science based interactive exhibits for permanent and travelling venues. This will include workshop duties including the operation of a variety of manual and powered tools and equipment.
* Assist in the delivery and staff coverage for the Exhibition Maintenance program ensuring consistent levels of exhibit functionality, troubleshooting problems and actioning cleaning and maintenance reporting logs.
* Assist in the sourcing and procurement of materials, consumables, components and assemblies, both online and locally including pick-up and delivery for the Production Team.
* Assist the Production Team with documentation and administration of accounts, environmental and safety auditing and record keeping.
* Support appropriate work standards within the production environment including work Health and Safety requirement and standard operating procedures.
* Provide support for weekend or extended hours maintenance cover and or workshop duties as required.
Eligibility
Prior to commencing, successful applicants will be required to:
* Undergo a ‘Working with Children’ Police Check.
* Obtain or hold a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) ACT 2011.
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens. Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
Notes
Whilst we have flexible working hours it is a requirement to be available during production workshop operating hours. The production team workshop operates from 7.00am-3.00pm weekdays. Maintenance tasks associated with this role may require occasional weekend and out of hours work.
This vacancy is Deakin based, however at least 2 days per week require working from Parkes to provide maintenance cover.
A merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies within 18 months from the date the vacancy was first advertised in the Gazette.
