The Role As the Director Governance, you will be responsible for delivering a wide-ranging portfolio in support of the Vice Chief of the Defence Force (VCDF) and VCDF Group. You will lead a small team maturing the VCDF Governance System, delivering the Governance functions, strategic Security initiatives, and Risk management for the VCDF Group. Excellent strategic awareness, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills are required as you will be providing advice, decision support, and briefing material to Chief of Staff ADFHQ, VCDF Group Divisions, OVCDF, and VCDF on the range of issues for which you are responsible, including whole of Defence issues. In this role, you will have extensive opportunities to engage with a wide range of stakeholders across VCDF Group, Office of the VCDF, and Defence - including Group and Service counterparts - and will have excellent opportunities to be exposed to issues affecting not only VCDF Group but also broader Defence. You will be responsible for leading a small team through change by identifying and delivering against new opportunities in line with strategic need. About our Team The Directorate of Governance is a small team at the strategic centre of Defence providing corporate governance including performance reporting, security, and risk management support to the VCDF and VCDF Group, working to the Chief of Staff ADFHQ. The team ensures high quality and timely products are provided to the senior leadership across VCDF Group to enable effective, evidence-based decision making in support of the Vice Chief and VCDF Group. The Governance team manages a suite of corporate governance processes including the VCDF Governance System, developing the VCDFG Business Plan, coordinating and reviewing the Corporate Plan, Business Continuity planning, and audit assurance. In addition, the team monitors performance against the Business Plan and supports the VCDF in developing input for the Defence Annual Report and Enterprise Performance Reports liaising with colleagues across Defence. The Security and Risk team provides operational and strategic security advice, including delivering the VCDF Group Security Advisor function. The team also manages the VCDF Group Risk Management Framework and Business Continuity processes. Our Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate for the role will have experience with, or understanding of, supporting executive decision making through Governance systems, Committee engagement, enterprise performance reporting, and supporting robust evidence-based decision-making. Excellent communication (written and oral) and stakeholder engagement skills will also be required to support engagement with senior leadership and colleagues across the Groups and Services. An ability to manage a busy workload and prioritise accordingly is highly desirable as is a strong and demonstrated understanding of the strategic environment within which Defence operates.
