The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is looking for an enthusiastic and organised administrator to join the Learning and Engagement team as Jams Coordinator to support our Jams for Juniors and Jams in Schools programs.
POSITION PURPOSE
Jams for Juniors and Jams in Schools are musical workshops for children aged 0-5 and primary school age respectively. These programs aim to introduce our youngest listeners to the joys of orchestral music and instruments through interactive workshops.
The Jams Coordinator works with the Artist-in-Residence for Learning and Engagement, Head of Learning and Engagement, and Artistic and Engagement Manager to deliver the operational requirements of the Jams in Schools and Jams for Juniors programs.
The Jams Coordinator serves as the MSO’s representative at all events and is responsible for, but not limited to:
1. Communicate with schools including recruitment, scheduling, and logistics;
2. Liaise with Artist in Residence regarding scheduling, repertoire, musician booking and logistics;
3. Coordinate production of learning resources and distribution to schools;
4. Management of musicians including booking, distribution of schedules and music;
5. Oversight of performance delivery including artist liaison, orchestra management and production supervision;
6. Maintenance of Jams in Schools databases;
7. Ensure ChildSafe compliancy.
Due to the nature of this position, flexibility to work outside of normal business hours, e.g. weekends, is essential.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
1. A genuine passion and enthusiasm for classical music and the arts;
2. A current Working With Children Check or ability to obtain one;
3. Minimum 12 months’ experience in an arts environment;
4. Outstanding administrative skills with the strong ability to work with initiative and coordinate concurrent record keeping and program-related operational processes;
5. Computer and database literacy and reporting skills;
6. Well-developed time and project management skills.
