Victorian Planning and Connections is accountable for planning the transmission system, making network investment decisions and connecting new generators and loads in Victoria, and ensuring these investments don't adversely impact the power system as a whole.
The department plays a key role in successfully navigating the energy future by determining and procuring investment in the best interest of consumers, and by acting as a trusted advisor for Victorian Government.
About the role The Senior Engineer – Power System Analysis and Design will lead power system analysis activities and develop functional level investment option designs.
The incumbent will quantify transmission network adequacy and limitations, identify investment needs, develop and propose investment options to meet identified needs, prepare primary and secondary functional level option designs and cost estimates, and prepare investment proposals that deliver safe, secure, and reliable electricity supply.
What you will be doing Independently undertake simulation and analysis of the Victorian transmission network using computer simulation tools to assess network capability & identify emerging limitations Interpret and justify simulation outcomes, draw conclusions, and provide robust recommendations Provide expert technical advice on option analysis reports, conceptual and detailed designs, scopes of work, cost estimates and design/construction delivery plans.
Coach and direct junior staff on network analysis and design and cost estimation approaches Prepare clear, concise, and high quality written and verbal communication Provide technical advice and expertise to coordinate internal resources, and manage external stakeholders We offer flexibility with this role, available as either a permanent full time or part time position.
What you will bring to the role Industry or related experience in electricity transmission network planning and design, encompassing short, medium, and/or long-term jurisdictional planning experience.
Demonstrated proficiency using electricity network analysis tools or relevant software, specifically PSS/E and PSCAD.
An understanding of, or experience in, market modelling analysis using software such as PLEXOS will also be viewed favourably.
Understanding and knowledge of the physical construction, operation and maintenance practices associated with primary and secondary network assets.
Experience and solid understanding of cost estimation techniques, systems and processes.
Experience in cost-benefit assessment, including applying probability-based analysis techniques for investment decision making ?Strong interpersonal, negotiation and problem-solving capability.
?Ability to prepare and delivery high quality communications suitable for other technical experts, senior management and external stakeholders.
Education Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering and relevant industry experience in power system analysis and design.
