Our Sustainability Team leads the organisation’s environmental sustainability approach, collaborating with the community, government and other stakeholders to deliver programs and services which set our city up for a greener future. We take an evidence-based approach to drive the organisation’s climate change mitigation and adaption response, corporate environmental performance, and capacity building of staff and community.
The Team Leader Sustainability is responsible for leading and managing the Sustainability Team and the hosted Green Adelaide Education Team. This position is responsible for proactively embedding environmental sustainability and climate change considerations within council’s strategic planning, policy, services, operations, infrastructure, engagement, outreach and advocacy.
About You
You will be purpose driven, people-focused and have a discerning eye for ways to make progress toward our sustainability goals. As a connector, influencer and driver, you will combine a strategic mindset with technical insight and people skills. You will also be persistent, patient and pragmatic.
With strong experience in people management and government administration, you will be skilled in leading, managing, mentoring and empowering staff. You will also be adept at providing strategic advice to the Chief Executive Officer, Directors, Managers and Elected Members.
With skills in developing plans and policies, you’ll have sound knowledge of sustainability practices such as climate change mitigation and adaptation, energy and emissions management, water sensitive urban design, biodiversity, urban forest planning, and natural resource management - and proven experience in integrating these into practice. Your action-focused and results driven approach and passion for sustainability will help you build and maintain collaborative relationships internally and externally to implement action for real change.
Key Selection Criteria:
* A tertiary qualification in environmental planning, policy, science, management or related field.
* Proven knowledge and experience in current environmental sustainability practices and developing and analysing strategic plans and policy.
* Experience leading, managing, empowering and enabling teams to be at their best.
* Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
* Excellent skills in collaborating and networking at all levels and demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships.
* Understanding of the role local government can play in environmental sustainability.
